On International Yoga Day, the demand for Khadi yoga clothes and mats soared, marking a significant boost for the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC). Across 55 Khadi outlets nationwide, sales of these indigenous yoga essentials totaled a noteworthy 8.67 crore rupees, supplied primarily to various government departments.
Manoj Kumar, Chairman of KVIC, attributed this surge to the influential ‘brand power’ of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which has propelled both yoga and Khadi into the limelight. He expressed delight over the record-breaking sales figures, highlighting the appreciation for the special yoga apparel and mats crafted by Khadi artisans.
Highlighting the symbolic gesture of leadership, Kumar noted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s yoga session in Srinagar and Home Minister Amit Shah’s practice in Ahmedabad, both donned in Khadi yoga attire. He emphasized that such endorsements from top leaders serve as a source of pride for Khadi artisans.
This surge in sales not only underscores the growing popularity of Khadi products but also reinforces their cultural and health-related significance on a global platform.
