Scranton, PA – The tranquil skyline of Scranton is set to host its beloved Fourth of July tradition: Yoga on the Roof, transforming an urban rooftop into a serene oasis for yogis and music enthusiasts alike.
For a decade now, Hilary Steinberg of Jaya Yoga has curated this annual event, drawing hundreds each year seeking inner peace amidst the city’s holiday calm.
“It’s hard to articulate the experience. The city slows down on holidays; there’s a tranquility you don’t find in the 9-to-5 hustle,” shared Steinberg.
Adding to the ambiance, the Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic will provide a live soundtrack, enriching the yoga session with melodies that resonate through body and soul.
“Both yoga and music nourish the mind, body, and soul. Music, especially, has a profound impact on the soul, much like yoga,” remarked Carol Dembert, President of the Philharmonic.
Dembert highlighted the event’s significance beyond personal enrichment, noting its contributions to the Philharmonic’s educational initiatives.
“The funds raised support our educational outreach, vital in a time when arts programs, including music, are under-resourced. We believe we’re offering a crucial service to northeastern Pennsylvania,” explained Dembert.
Aligning movement with breath, Steinberg reflected on the synergy between yoga and music: “Yoga, like music, orchestrates movements and breaths into a personal symphony.”
The 11th annual Yoga on the Roof will commence rain or shine at 9 a.m. on Thursday, July 4th, atop the Electric City Parking Garage on Penn Avenue. A suggested donation of $20 supports the NEPA Philharmonic, with walk-in registrations welcomed.
In addition to the rooftop event, the NEPA Philharmonic will perform at the Scrantastic Spectacular on July 3rd and in Wilkes-Barre on July 4th, further enriching the holiday celebrations with their harmonious melodies.
