In conjunction with the upcoming Republican National Convention, Meditate Milwaukee is set to host a free virtual meditation session titled “The City of Love Meditation.” Scheduled for Wednesday, July 17, from 6 to 7 p.m., the event aims to foster a profound sense of community and connection during this significant civic gathering.
Global musician Brenda McMorrow will guide participants through this unique meditation experience, which will be accessible online to attract a diverse audience from Milwaukee and beyond.
According to Kaita Bliffert, co-organizer of the event, the primary objective is to unite thousands of individuals from various backgrounds in spreading love and positivity throughout the city. “We believe there is a genuine need for collective compassion and understanding in our current societal landscape,” Bliffert stated.
Emphasizing its non-partisan stance, Meditate Milwaukee seeks to remain independent of any political affiliations or agendas. Co-organizer Traci Schwartz highlighted the potential impact of large-scale meditation on the surrounding environment: “Our goal is to redirect attention during the convention towards themes of connection and love, countering the prevailing divisiveness in our culture.”
The event welcomes both seasoned practitioners and newcomers to meditation, aiming to create a welcoming space for all participants.
Supported by the Convergence Fund at the Greater Milwaukee Foundation, Meditate Milwaukee operates as a program under the local non-profit organization Blue Lotus Center. Reflecting on the event, Bliffert encouraged individuals to embrace the opportunity for introspection and mindfulness in virtual community: “This is an invitation to collectively nurture a more meditative and thoughtful approach as we join together virtually.”
This initiative underscores a proactive effort to promote unity and emotional well-being amidst a politically charged atmosphere, advocating for a moment of reflection and connection amidst the buzz of the convention.
