NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Yoga enthusiasts in Middle Tennessee have seen their fair share of unique twists on the ancient practice – from hot yoga to goat yoga. Now, joining this eclectic lineup is the latest trend: puppy yoga.
At the Margaret Maddox YMCA in East Nashville, Saturday mornings are not just about finding your center amidst yoga poses, but also about sharing the space with playful puppies. Organized by the non-profit New Leash on Life, based in Wilson County, these classes aim to marry the benefits of yoga with the joy of canine companionship.
“The tickets for these classes actually go towards starting our behavior and training fund,” explained Macy Thompson, a dedicated member of the non-profit. New Leash on Life extends its reach beyond Wilson County, collaborating with neighboring counties to facilitate dog adoptions. The proceeds from puppy yoga classes directly fund training programs designed to enhance dogs’ adoptability.
“It’s about giving these dogs a second chance,” Thompson emphasized. “Sometimes they come across as aggressive, but often, they just need guidance and understanding.” The therapeutic environment of puppy yoga serves as a rehabilitative opportunity, offering canines a renewed chance at finding a loving home.
Participants not only get to enjoy the relaxing benefits of yoga but also have the opportunity to fill out adoption paperwork post-session if they connect with a furry friend.
Missed the last class? Fear not – another session is scheduled for the first Saturday in August, promising another chance to stretch, relax, and potentially find a new four-legged family member.
For yoga enthusiasts and dog lovers alike, puppy yoga is proving to be more than just a trend – it’s a heartwarming way to support canine welfare while nurturing personal well-being.
