Vernon, IN — Seniors in Jennings County may soon benefit from enhanced wellness opportunities, thanks to a prospective state grant aimed at supporting local community initiatives.
The Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority has unveiled plans to launch a fundraising campaign under the state’s CreatINg Places program. The initiative seeks to improve accessibility at Perceptions Yoga, Mindfulness & Art, Inc., located in Vernon, by installing a chair lift to the facility’s second floor.
Organizers from the nonprofit have set a target to raise $20,000 by September 15th, which represents their half of the project costs.
Highlighting the significance of the endeavor, Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch, Indiana’s Secretary of Agriculture and Rural Development, praised the project as a model for leveraging community partnerships to benefit local residents. She emphasized that the proposed enhancements at Perceptions Yoga will not only facilitate easier access but also promote healthy lifestyles and elevate the overall quality of life for senior citizens in Jennings County.
This initiative is part of the broader CreatINg Livable Communities Partnership, a collaborative effort between AARP Indiana and CreatINg Places. The partnership focuses on supporting aging in place initiatives across Indiana. In addition to state funding, the project is eligible to receive up to $5,000 in matching funds from AARP Indiana.
Established in 2016, the CreatINg Places program provides matching funds for projects proposed by nonprofit organizations and local governments, with a maximum state match of $50,000. To date, over $11.1 million in public funds have been dedicated to Indiana projects, leveraging an additional $9.3 million in state matching grants.
Funds for the Vernon project are being solicited through the Patronicity web portal, accessible via https://www.patronicity.com.
