Lincoln City, OR – The Lincoln City Cultural Plaza continues its streak of inaugural events with the upcoming New Moon Yoga Day on Saturday, July 20. Nestled in the heart of the plaza, this event marks a significant milestone as the community is invited to join in a group practice of 108 Sun Salutations led by the instructors of New Moon Yoga.
New Moon Yoga, a program under the nonprofit Lincoln City Cultural Center, has been a beacon of accessible yoga for the local community, offering sessions six days a week. The event kicks off at 10 a.m. with participants gathering along the poetry path in front of the cultural center located at 540 NE Highway 101. The yoga practice, using the short and simple Surya Namaskar A sequence from the ashtanga tradition, is expected to last approximately 90 minutes, followed by 15 minutes of collective stillness and meditation.
Brady Jansen, yoga instructor and studio manager, explained the significance of performing 108 Sun Salutations: “This meditative practice is meant to propel us toward expansion and prosperity, both individually and collectively as a community. The number 108 holds deep significance in Hinduism, Buddhism, and Indian culture as auspicious.”
Jansen clarified that participants need not complete all 108 salutations, encouraging them to listen to their bodies and rest as needed. “Approach yoga with openness and curiosity,” Jansen advised, “and try not to be bound by expectation.”
The day-long celebration will include various activities scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., encompassing both outdoor activities at the plaza and indoor events at the cultural center. Inside, attendees can enjoy food, music, children’s activities, and a silent auction. Craft projects for kids will be available from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., while the band Your Song My Song will entertain visitors at 1 p.m. with family-friendly music. A gentle, restorative yoga class will follow at 2 p.m., with admission by donation.
“All proceeds from donations and the silent auction will support the upkeep of New Moon Yoga’s studio, ensuring continued access to yoga for all,” Jansen emphasized. “For the past decade, we’ve strived to provide affordable, high-quality yoga, and we look forward to expanding our offerings and community presence.”
For those interested in contributing, New Moon Yoga welcomes monetary donations as well as items for the silent auction. Contact studio manager Brady Jansen at [email protected] or 971-303-9646 for more information on how to get involved.
