Sturgeon Bay residents interested in yoga, whether experienced or just starting, now have a new place to practice. The Yoga Womb, a studio and wellness center, will celebrate its grand opening on Tuesday, Oct. 1. Founded by seasoned yoga practitioner and instructor Brooke Ulrich, the studio offers a range of classes designed to cater to beginners, intermediate practitioners, and advanced yogis.
Located on Maple Street in the city’s west side, The Yoga Womb aims to provide a space where individuals can explore healing, personal growth, and wellness for both mind and body. According to a press release from Ulrich, the studio’s classes are built around the philosophy of fostering a safe and welcoming environment. Among the current offerings are traditional Hatha, Vinyasa, Yen, Yin, restorative yoga, and somatics classes. Additionally, the studio will offer group coaching and specialized sessions such as Yoga for Kids, with more classes to be announced soon.
Ulrich, who has been practicing yoga for many years, began teaching in 2013. She holds both CYT-200 and RYT-200 certifications, meaning she is a certified and registered yoga teacher with 200 hours of training. Her specialty lies in Kripalu yoga, a practice focused on alignment and tradition. Her teaching blends physical and mental challenges with meditation and philosophical insight, with the goal of helping her students feel better in body and mind.
“Yoga has given me strength I didn’t know I had and access to tools I never knew existed within myself,” Ulrich said in the release. “It’s helped me overcome the most challenging chapters of my life. My greatest reward is being able to share those things with my community. My hope is that the studio becomes a place where everybody, especially those who need it most, can explore their healing and personal growth journey through a multitude of experiences in a safe, supportive environment and to help them find a deeper connection to themselves.”
Before opening The Yoga Womb, Ulrich was a yoga instructor at Door County Yoga, which closed its studio in October 2023 to focus on its massage business, Door County Massage. While Door County Yoga continues to offer private classes and lead summer “Yoga in the Park” sessions, Ulrich wanted to ensure that the community still had access to a dedicated yoga space. With the support of Jan Mills, owner of Door County Yoga/Door County Massage, and some former instructors from Door County Yoga, Ulrich decided to launch The Yoga Womb.
“Yoga is a huge passion of mine,” Ulrich shared with the Advocate. “It will bring me so much joy to share these practices with so many people who could use it to improve their lives.”
The grand opening, scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m. on Oct. 1, will give the public an opportunity to learn more about the studio, meet instructors and facilitators, try out some poses, and participate in a dance party. Light refreshments and snacks will be provided, and attendees can enter a raffle to win an eight-week yoga class session.
To encourage participation, The Yoga Womb will also host a “Five Days of Free Yoga” event from Oct. 1 to 5, allowing individuals to sample various classes. Regular classes will officially begin on Oct. 7, running in eight-week sessions. While most classes will be available for drop-in attendance, participants are encouraged to sign up in advance.
