Yuba City, CA – In a serene corner of Hillcrest Park, the Blue Zones Project Yuba Sutter, in collaboration with PureJoy Yoga, inaugurated a 10-week sunrise yoga series this Thursday. The community is invited to join these free sessions every Thursday from 7 to 8 a.m. until September 12.
The Blue Zones Project, aimed at enhancing community well-being, views activities like yoga as beneficial for both physical health and mental well-being, according to Executive Director Marni Sanders.
“Yoga helps alleviate anxiety, centers our minds, and fosters mindfulness—values that resonate deeply with the Blue Zones Project’s mission of promoting health and well-being,” Sanders emphasized.
Acknowledging the financial barriers that prevent some from accessing yoga classes, Sanders highlighted the inclusivity of this initiative.
“This is an opportunity for anyone to attend a free class in the park and potentially forge new friendships. Building connections is a vital component of the Blue Zones philosophy,” Sanders added.
PureJoy Yoga ensures accessibility by providing extra yoga mats, and Sanders announced a weekly raffle for a Blue Zones branded yoga mat, alongside complimentary t-shirts for participants.
Each session will feature rotating instructors, starting with Amy Morrison from PureJoy Yoga.
“Yoga cultivates a sense of inner calm, intention, and centeredness,” Morrison shared, emphasizing its broader impact beyond the mat. “It permeates through all aspects of life.”
Morrison underscored her inclusive teaching approach, tailored to accommodate various fitness and flexibility levels.
“We prioritize honoring each participant’s journey and ensuring a safe, accessible practice for everyone,” Morrison explained.
Regarding the yoga style taught in the series, Morrison noted her preference for hatha yoga, characterized by sustained poses.
“I focus on holding poses longer to encourage mindfulness and deeper connection with the practice,” Morrison elaborated.
Participants in the inaugural session appreciated the unique outdoor experience, complete with bird songs and the grounding presence of nature. The class commenced and concluded with focused breathwork, setting the tone for mindful practice.
Sanders clarified that registration is not mandatory for attending these sessions. For more details about the Yoga in the Park program, interested individuals can visit www.eventbrite.com and search for Blue Zones Project Yuba-Sutter.
The initiative aims to foster community wellness through accessible yoga sessions, promoting physical health and mental resilience among participants.
